The third edition of the European Young Chef Award will be hosted by the Galway International Hotel School, GMIT on 25 – 26 November 2017.
Galway, West of Ireland is European Region of Gastronomy Awarded 2018 is the region belonging to the European Young Chef 2017 edition winner, Aisling Rock.
The competition will see finalists coming from awarded and candidate European Regions of Gastronomy competing inside the kitchens of GMIT for the coveted title by innovating on a traditional recipe using raw materials coming from their native regions. The innovative recipes will be presented in front of a Jury panel of experts in different fields.
The Award aims to enhance local products as the vital DNA characterising each region while contributing to raising awareness of healthy eating and sustainable food systems. It considers tradition as the basis on which it is possible to innovate to keep regional identities alive. Furthermore, there is an emphasis on promoting food as a powerful tool able to reconnect rural and urban environments and find smart solutions in regard to regional development through food production and sustainable hospitality industries.
Finally, it will be a valuable opportunity for young chefs to enhance their careers within a vibrant framework. They will have the occasion to share experiences and knowledge and learning from each other’s regional cooking traditions, and the Award will give them the chance to sign a protocol to be IGCAT Regional Chef Ambassadors.

About IGCAT’s European Young Chef Award
The European Young Chef Award is an annual competition organised by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Art and Tourism (IGCAT) that gathers young culinary talents from the awarded and candidate European Regions of Gastronomy. Selected each year through local contests, finalists to the European Young Chef Award compete by innovating traditional recipes from their regions using local ingredients.
The 8th edition of the European Young Chef Award is organised and promoted by IGCAT and hosted by Sicily, European Region of Gastronomy awarded 2025. The competition will be held at the IPSSEOA “Giovanni Falcone”, Giarre Hospitality School on 27-30 November 2024.
